The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the SSC CGL Exam for the recruitment of Grade B and Grade C category posts in various Government Ministries, Departments and Offices. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam for recruitment to various subordinate services like:
- Assistants in Ministries/Departments, Attached and Subordinate office of the Govt. of India.
- Inspectors of Central Excise & Customs.
- Inspectors of Income Tax.
- Preventive Officers in Customs.
- Examiner in Customs.
- Sub-Inspectors in Central Bureau of Narcotics & CBI.
- Assistant Enforcement Officer in Directorate of Enforcement, Department of Revenue.
- Divisional Accountant, Jr. Accountant, Auditor & UDCs in various offices of Govt. of India.
- Auditor Offices under C&AG, CGDA, CGA & others.
- Accountant/ Junior Accountant
- Tax Assistant in CBDT and CBEC
- Compiler in Registrar General of India.

- You must be a citizen of India.
The age limit varies according to the different posts. The various limits are: 18-27 years, 20-27 years, 20-30 years, and 20-32 years, depending on the posts. Age relaxation:

- Apart from the above, there are certain requisite Physical Standards for Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub-Inspector in CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and Sub-Inspector in NIA (National Investigation Agency).
These tests are conducted whenever there is an optimal number of vacant posts in the organization. However, the tentative months in the last few years are given below for you:

SSC CGL Examination is conducted in four stages as mentioned below:
- Tier-I: Computer Based Examination
- Tier-II: Computer Based Examination
- Tier-III: Pen and Paper Mode (Descriptive paper)
- Tier-IV: Computer Proficiency Test/ Data Entry Skill Test (wherever applicable)/ Document Verification
There is a negative marking of 0.50 Marks for each wrong answer. There is no sectional cut off. No point will be deducted if the question is left blank or unanswered by a candidate.
There is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III and Paper-IV.
SSC CGL Tier-4 Exam is a Computer Skill Test. It will be conducted in two steps:
- DEST Test: Candidates are required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes on a computer in English. This test is conducted to check a candidate’s writing skills.
- CPT Test: This test is conducted to check a candidate’s proficiency in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Generation of Slides.
