Which are a few of the primary Railway exams in India?
  • RRB Group D (for various posts in Level 1 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix such as Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Helper/Assistant Pointsman, etc.)
  • RRB JE (Junior Engineer (JE), Junior Engineer (Information Technology) Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA))
  • RRB NTPC (Undergraduate posts: Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Trains Clerk and Commercial cum Ticket Clerk.

Graduate posts: Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Commercial Apprentice and Station Master.)

What is Railway Recruitment?

The recruitments of the railways are handled by the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) and Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs). RRBs are mandated with the responsibility of conducting recruitment to all Group C (Technical and Non-Technical) posts. RRCs are given with the responsibility of conducting exams for Group D recruitment. There are a total of 21 RRBs and 16 RRCs. Recruitment to Group A and B posts in Indian Railways are done through Civil Services and Engineering Services Exam (ESE).

Vacancies announced:

  • RRB Group D: 1,03,769
  • RRB NTPC: 35,208
  • RRB ALP: 64,371 (Announced in 2018)
  • RRB JE: Revised from 14,033 to 13,487 (Announced in 2018)
How much salary can I expect?

RRB Group D: The RRB Group D salary will be in the Level 01 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix with initial pay of Rs.18000/- plus other allowances admissible at that time. After adding perks &emoluments overall salary will be in the range of Rs.22,000-25,000/-. The total distribution of salary has been provided below.   RRB NTPC:  

  • The salary and allowances for the post having basic pay Rs.19,900. The posts in this basic pay are Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper and Train Clerk. The total in-hand salary becomes Rs.28,696
  • The basic salary and the in-hand salary for the post Traffic Assistant are Rs.25,500 and Rs.35,416, respectively. It is the only post under Pay level 4.
  • Check the salary of the posts which are under the pay level 5 and basic pay Rs.29,200. The posts come under this pay level are Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist and Senior Time Keeper. The in-hand salary becomes Rs.39,856.

Exam Eligibility Criteria
RRB Group D Age Limit: 18 to 33 years

Educational Qualification:

Passed Class 10th from Institution recognized by NCVT/SCVT or equivalent or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT

RRB NTPC Age Limit: The age limit for undergraduate post is 18 to 30 years. The age limit for graduate post is 18 to 33 years.

 

Educational Qualification:

For undergraduate post, candidates must have passed Class 12th

For graduate post, candidates must have passed graduation.

RRB JE Age Limit: 18 to 33 years

 

Educational Qualification

JE Post: An applicant must have three years Diploma in Civil Engineering/Mechanical/ Production/ Automobile / Electrical/ Electronics/ Instrumentation & Control Engineering/ Control/ Tools & Machining/ Tools & Die Making/ Computer Science/ Computer Engineering or B.Sc in Civil Engineering from a Recognized University/Institute.

 

DMS: Applicants need to complete a three-year Diploma in Engineering from any govt. recognized university or equivalent.

 

JE (IT): Candidates must have PGDCA / B.Sc. (Computer Science)/ BCA/ B.Tech. (Information Technology)/ B.Tech. (Computer Science)/ DOEACC ‘B’ level course of three years duration or equivalent.

 

CMA: Degree in Science with Physics and Chemistry with minimum 55% marks.

RRB ALP Age Limit: 18 to 28 years

 

Educational Qualification:

ALP: Must have passed Class 10th/SSLC & ITI/Course Completed Act Apprentices or Diploma/Degree in Engineering.

When can I take the test?

These tests are conducted whenever there is an optimal number of vacant posts in the organization. However, the tentative months in the last few years are given below for you:

What is the testing process?

RRB Group D: RRB Group D exam is conducted in the following phases:

  • Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  • Document verification and empaneling of candidates.

RRB NTPC: RRB NTPC exam is conducted in the following phases:

  • First stage CBT – Computer Based Test (CBT-1)
  • Second stage CBT
  • CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude test)
  • Typing skill test
  • Document verification/medical examination.

RRB JE: RRB JE exam is conducted in the following phases:

  • 1st Stage CBT – Computer Based Test (CBT-1)
  • 2nd Stage CBT – (CBT 2)
  • Document Verification
  • Medical Examination

RRB ALP: RRB ALP exam is conducted in the following phases:

  • Negative marking: 1/3rd of the maximum marks of an incorrectly answered question.
  • The CBAT is conducted for candidates who have opted for Traffic Assistant and Station Master. The questions and answer options will be in English and Hindi. There is no negative marking in CBAT. In this test, candidates are given different test batteries consisting of five to six tests as per the posts.

The typing skill test is conducted for the posts of Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Time Keeper. The typing skill test is qualifying in nature. Candidates should be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on Computer. Candidates are not allowed to use editing tools and spell check facilities. RRB JE:
