What is SBI Probationary Officer(PO) exam?

The SBI Probationary Officer (PO) exam is a computer-based test for selectionof candidates into the management cadre of the State Bank of India. The State Bank of India conducts this exam where candidates are selected for the post of Probationary Officer during their training period. Thereafter, they move into various managerial posts of the Bank.

For the year 2020, a total of 2000 vacancies were released across the different categories.

How much salary can I expect?
  • Presently, the starting basic pay is 27,620/- (with 4 advance increments) in the scale of Rs.23700-980/7-30560-1145/2-32850-1310/7-42020 applicable to Junior Management Grade Scale-I.
  • The official will also be eligible for D.A, H.R.A/ Lease rental, C.C.A, Medical and other allowances & perquisites as per rules in force from time to time (the emoluments are likely to be revised shortly).
Am I eligible for SBI PO?

Nationality: You must be an Indian citizen.

Educational Qualifications:

  • You must hold a Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification which is recognised by the Central Government.
  • You can apply even if you are a final year/semester student provided you can produce your proof of graduation on the date of the interview.

Age limit: 

At the time of the registration, your age should NOT be less than 21 years or more than 30 years.

Note: Cumulative Age relaxation will not be available either under the above items or in combination with any other items.

When can I take the test?

The test is conducted according to the PO vacancies created in SBI and associated organizations. For example, the 2021 notification came out in September 2021.

What is the testing process?

The SBI PO testing process consists of three stages:

  • SBI PO Prelims
  • SBI PO Mains
  • SBI PO Group Exercises & Interview

The marks obtained in the Prelims test is only considered for qualification in the Mains test.

What is the paper pattern?

There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests. 1/4th of the mark assigned for question will be deducted for each wrong answer.

The Final scores are obtained by adding the marks obtained in both the Mains test (both Objective and Descriptive tests) and those obtained in the Group Exercises & Interview.
